The Live Oak Education Foundation believes that giving students of all ages hands-on STEM experiences provides valuable opportunities that may spark a passion for exploration, investigation and even future STEM-related careers. The Foundation has purchased hands-on (FOSS) science kits for elementary students and was proud to fund a pilot STEAM summer camp for incoming 5th graders in 2019 that we hope to continue after the pandemic. For Shoreline Middle School, we purchased a 3D printer used in the popular STEAM elective and provide ongoing funding to purchase the necessary materials. We also launched Family STEAM Nights in 2019 to engage families together in hands-on scientific design and engineering arts experiences. We hope to fund after-school coding programs for middle school students in the future. Finally, when schools closed due to COVID-19 in March 2020, the Foundation spearheaded a fundraising campaign to ensure every student had access to a Chromebook and raised $22,500 to achieve this goal!
